Baptism is one of the first things Jesus asks us to do after we choose to follow Him

Baptism is an act of obedience. It is an outward expression of what has taken place inwardly. The old "self" has died, and with it, our slavery to and debt of sin. Through baptism, we exclaim that are following Jesus - burying that old self (under the water) and rising again to new life in Christ (coming up out of the water).
